Advisory Board
Our Medical Advisory Board features experienced healthcare professionals who have served in a variety of clinical, family practice, management and executive roles.
Together, they provide real-world, independent information and vision for our technology and management teams, from recommendations about the development and implementation of new products, to objective reviews of our methodologies and approach, to consultations with potential customers and partners.
Barbara Duffy, RN, BS Ed, MPH, CPHQ, LHRM, Ph.D.
Mrs. Duffy brings more than 25 years of clinical and clinical management experience to MDI, most recently serving as the Corporate Manager Regulatory Department for Orlando Health. She has formerly served as the Performance Improvement Manager at Adventist Health/Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center. She is also a professor for the Health Science undergraduate departments at both Kaplan University and Excelsior College, and is an adjunct faculty member at Daytona State College.
Mrs. Duffy has held clinical management and consulting positions with Cardinal Health, Interim Healthcare, and Humana Medical Plan. In addition to being a Registered Nurse, she holds a Doctorate of Health Science from Nova Southeastern University, a Masters in Public Health and Administration, is a Licensed Health Care Risk Manager, and she is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality. She has published more than 30 articles on healthcare in national medical journals since 1996.
J. Eric Haas, MD
Dr. Haas is a Board Certified family practice physician with more than 24 years of direct patient care and clinical management experience. Dr. Haas is currently a practicing Family Physician in Jacksonville, Florida and also serves as the Medical Director for a large medical practice in the Orlando area.
Previously, Dr. Haas was the Network Medical Director for both WellCare Health Plan and Aetna Health Plan for the North Florida market. Dr. Haas has also worked at Glaxo Wellcome, where he was a Senior Regional Medical Scientist with responsibility for scientific research studies in physicians' offices and physician education on allergy and asthma disease state management. He formerly held positions as Chairman of the Physicians Operating Board of Baptist/St. Vincent's Primary Care, Board Member of the North Florida Physicians Association and Chief of Family Medicine at Baptist Beaches Hospital.
Christopher Manion, MD, MBA, CPE
Dr. Manion is a Board Certified family practice physician and a Certified Physician Executive, serving in clinical practice since 1996. He is currently the President and Medical Director for Community Health Network of Central Florida, a Physician Hospital Organization (PHO) with 70+ physicians and a 210-bed community hospital. He is also Medical Director of the Parrish Medical Center Occupational Medical program and Department Chair for family practice, and a member of the Board of the Jess Parrish Medical Foundation in Titusville, Florida.
In addition to his medical education, Dr. Manion holds an MBA from the University of Miami with specialization in Health Administration and is a previous Medical Director for Aetna US Healthcare in Plantation, Florida. Prior to his career in healthcare, Dr. Manion was a licensed commercial pilot and flight instructor for more than six years.
David Vogel, Technical Advisor, Chairman of Advisory Board
David Vogel is a data mining and predictive modeling expert based in Orlando, Florida. Mr. Vogel specializes in predicting medical outcomes for both clinical and underwriting purposes, and has developed predictive models which have been successful with a variety of data sets. He has won international recognition for models in fields ranging from medical applications to direct marketing.
Mr. Vogel is the 3 time winner and 2 time runner-up of the prestigious KDD Cup, an award presented to the winner of the annual Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery competition. He recently won the 2010 OMOP Cup, a competition co-sponsored by the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) where he predicted a large set of adverse drug reactions more accurately than the competing models.
Mr. Vogel holds degrees in Mathematics and Scientific Computing from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and New York University, and has been invited to speak at conferences and research institutes worldwide.
Rudolf Bickel, MD, MDI Corporate Medical Director
As Corporate Medical Director, Dr. Bickel has taken an active role in guiding the clinical development MDI’s capabilities. He has served the company on the Board of Directors for more than 15 years and is a trusted advisor on clinical issues relating to MDI’s operations.
A retired Colonel in the United States Air Force Medical Corps, Dr. Bickel has more than 20 years experience in the public sector. He served clinically in various roles and has held key staff positions in the Office of the Surgeon General (USAF), Tri-Service Medical Information Systems Program Office and the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine. During his career as a practicing physician, Dr. Bickel founded and served as medical director at several successful medical practices in the Mid-Atlantic region. He was the Associate Medical Director for PHP Healthcare Corporation, a position in which he initiated development of a series of contractor-run off-base medical clinics for military dependents, and has held consultant positions with a number of healthcare technology oriented companies.
Dr. Bickel received his Bachelor of Science with distinction from the University of Michigan and went on to graduate from Harvard Medical School. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine, a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and is designated as an FAA Senior Aeromedical Examiner. He is currently licensed to practice medicine in both Florida and Virginia.
