Viewpoint data solutions drive
new approach to Medicaid
services in Florida

In an effort to increase choice and offer more services for Medicaid beneficiaries, the state of Florida launched a new Medicaid Reform Program. As part of this program, Medicaid patients can now receive medical care from HMOs and PSNs (Provider Service Networks) in several North Florida counties. To better serve these communities, Shands HealthCare created First Coast Advantage (FCA), a PSN that coordinates benefits for more than 46,000 eligible patients in Northeast Florida.

FCA and Shands recently partnered with MDI to implement a complete data management solution, including secure data warehousing with a full range of reporting and analytics capabilities. Before being selected for this partnership, the MDI technology team had to demonstrate our ability to integrate a range of information from different sources and provide valuable insight for users throughout the FCA organization.

"MDI's technology will enable us to medically manage claims data, provider information and all aspects of providing services to our Medicaid population," said Glenn Kollen, Executive Director of FCA. "They treated us like a partner and worked with us to customize a solution that would meet our unique needs."

Our technology team and engineers worked closely with FCA representatives to create a solution that would provide role-based delivery of information for a wide range of users, including up-to-date reports by email to providers, partners and business users within their organization.

FCA's customized data management solution includes a web-based decision support system with predictive analytics, risk scoring, gaps in care reporting and clinical care benchmarking–all through a secure, web-based portal available from multiple locations throughout the FCA coverage area.

Another significant aspect of Florida Medicaid Reform is a new focus on "healthy behaviors," providing services and rewards to help improve patient health and encourage prevention over treatment. To support that initiative, FCA will also have access to MDI's new disease management solution, allowing FCA to manage patient wellness and ultimately drive down costs using Interqual® care guidelines.
